MTC Classic By Xavier S.
The Mount Carmel Classic (MTC Classic) is a staple event held at OLMC every year. It celebrates the Hockey Academy program and the talents of the students enrolled.
History
The MTC Classic started in the second year of the Hockey Academy Program in 2005, and has been going on since. It was started to show the school how well students were developing in their training. In the beginning the MTC Classic game was for all junior high students, and had them playing against the coaches. Due to growth of the program, it became two teams of students playing. This year the teams will be made up of grade 8s and 9s mixed together.
Every year alumni attend the game (old students, and coaches, etc.). Usually at the MTC Classic the academy retires a jersey. Previous jersey retirements are Caleb Belter, Mark McNeil, Karly Heffernan, and Stephan Legault.
The players are rewarded with pizza at the school and they are able to spend time with the alumni. It is a fun and rewarding learning experience for all and something that the entire school looks forward to.
This article is the first in a series. The next article will focus on how the game works.
